The Halfway Point
Half of MathPath has officially passed! Although it feels like we’ve experienced so much already, we’re planning to fit even more exciting activities, math and events into these last ten days. With our continuing breakouts and some exciting full-program events coming up this weekend, we have a lot to look forward to. Remote MathPath has proven to be everything we could have hoped for and more, and we can’t wait to share the rest of it with you over the second half of the month.
Our MathPathers are really getting to know each other, even when they’re separated by thousands of miles! With group-drawing projects and attempts to beat the standing “counting game” record, counselor groups spend their three meetings a day making connections and growing closer. Breakouts, activities and dance parties provide us with new subsets of MathPathers to meet, befriend and do math with.
We continued learning new math this week in another batch of exciting breakouts. “Cryptology” with Prof. Rogness (in his eleventh year at MathPath!) has us encrypting, decrypting and learning new ciphers; Asia is leading an introduction to some abstract algebra in “Visual Group Theory” and Professor Pudwell is conducting a study of the amazing “Catalan Numbers”. Problems of the day are testing our creative-thinking skills outside of classes, and MathPathers are living up to the challenge as they continue to offer beautifully-written solutions day in and day out!
It’s been exciting to see all of our MathPathogens grow as mathematicians and as friends so far this summer, and we can’t wait to see them grow more as the month goes on. Keep writing those homeworks, puzzling over those PoDs, drawing those counselor group masterpieces and making new friends. We’ll see you in the morning (or whatever time of day it is for you) to do it all over again!
